CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAM SERVICES
The Holts Summit Police Department can provide
several services in the area of crime prevention to the
residents and businesses in the community at no cost.
Security Surveys –
Residential and commercial security surveys can be
requested in advance by contacting the Holts Summit Police
Department in person at
245 S. Summit Dr.
Holts Summit, MO
65043, by calling (573) 896-4678, or by mail directed to
Holts Summit Police Department – Crime Prevention Program
Services – P.O. Box 429
Holts Summit, MO
65043.
When conducting a Security Survey for a residence or
business, an officer of the department will examine the exterior
and interior of the residence or business for safety, fire, and
crime hazards. A
report is then generated for the requesting resident or business
with recommendations for reducing the probability crimes,
injuries, or fires occurring.
“Watch
In Passing” Notifications –
“Watch In Passing” Notifications are forms provided
by the Holts Summit Police Department for residents.
These are also sometimes known as “Vacation Notification
Forms”.
The forms allow for the resident to notify the police
department of the dates they will be gone, their contact
number(s), whom to contact in the event of an emergency while
they are gone, light and security system information, pets in
the residence, persons and vehicles that may be at the residence
during their absence, persons specifically NOT allowed to be at
or in the residence, noteworthy damage to the residence already
existing, anything the police should know about in the residence
( guns/weapons, valuables, etc.).
Other special requests and information can also be
included on the forms.
Completed forms are provided to the investigative and
patrol divisions, and supervisors insure patrol officers are
aware of them.
Increased patrol activity and inspection of the residence is
done as time and availability of officers allows.
Bank
Training –
Bank training is a service provided to local banking
facilities that helps to train the management and employees of
the business what to expect, and what to do, in the event of a
bank robbery. The
Holts Summit Police Department trains about the process of a
robbery from start to finish, with general things to expect from
the suspect(s), from the police, and what they should do as
employees. The
police department will also conduct a live “mock robbery” of the
facility using actors as suspects and the real officers of the
Holts Summit Police Department responding to the call.
Crime
Stoppers –
How Does Crime Stoppers
Work?
There is
usually someone who has information that can help solve crime.
In many investigations, however, police and other law
enforcement agencies encounter individuals who will not directly
provide information. The three key reasons are:
-
Fear of reprisal
-
An attitude of apathy
-
Reluctance to get involved.
Crime Stoppers breaks through these barriers by giving people the
opportunity to provide information without directly speaking to
police or having to testify in court. Obviously
investigators need witnesses to help prove their case in court,
but most importantly they need information that allows them to
zero in on a suspect or a criminal operation, such as a drug
trafficking network. Tips to Crime Stoppers does not give
police evidence they require to arrest an individual but puts
them on the right track to solve crime. Cash rewards from
Crime Stoppers also motivate some people to call anonymously
with information that will be vital to investigators.
